Under Graduation : Bachelor in Dental Surgery - BDS

Duration of the course The undergraduate dental programme leading to BDS Degree shall be of 4(four) academic years, with 240 teaching days in each academic year, plus one year rotating internship in a dental college. Every candidate will be required, after passing the final BDS Examination, to undergo one year rotating internship in a dental college. The internship shall be compulsory and BDS Degree shall be granted after completion of one year Internship.

Attendance A candidate has to attend not less than 80% of the classes both in theory and practical/clinical and the marks are submitted to the university conducted examinations for declaring results at the end of each class. The internal examinations are conducted both for regular and failed students.

Internal Assessment There shall be a minimum of two internal examinations in each subject, conducted by the college. The examinations are conducted both for theory and practical/clinical and the marks are submitted to the university which in turn is added with the university conducted examinations for declaring results at the end of each class. Scheme of examintion The scheme of examination of B.D.S. course is divided into 4 professional examinations, viz., I B.D.S. examination at the end of 1st year class, II BDS Examination at the end of 2nd year class, III BDS Examination at the end of 3rd year class and IV BDS examination at the end of 4th year class. University examinations are held twice in a year, commencing in the month of December and June. The examination is open to candidates who have satisfied the requirement of attendance, progress and conduct as stipulated by the university. Certificate to the above effect should be produced from the Head of the Institution by the candidate along with the application for examination.

Results A candidate is declared to have passed the Examination in a subject if he/she secures 50% in practical separately. For a pass in theory, a candidate has to secure a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of the university conducted written examination, internal assessment and viva-voce added together and for a pass in practical, a candidate has to secure a minimum of 50% in aggregate of university conducted practical/clinical examination and internal assessment. Successful candidates who obtain 65% of the total marks or more shall be declared to have passed in the examination in first class. The names of such candidates be placed in order to merit. Other successful candidates who have secured second class,will be placed in alphabetical order. Those obtaining 75% or more of the total marks shall be declared to have passed the subject with distinction. Only those candidates who pass the whole examination in the first attempt will be eligible for distinction and class. A candidate who has passed in any one subject need not appear again in that subject in any subsequent examination.

Carry over system A candidate who has failed in any one subject only, may be permitted to go to next higher B.D.S. class and may be allowed to pass the subject in subsequent examinations. However, he/she has to complete such an examination by a pass in that subject before he/she is allowed to take the next higher B.D.S class examination.

Field programme As a part of community dentistry programme, the students in the clinical section will have to attend the various dental camps/field programmes as a part fulfillment of requirements of B.D.S. examination to the satisfaction of the head of the institute.
