Department of Paedodontics & Prevetive Dentistry

Department of Paedodontics & Preventive Dentistry conducted a CDE Program titled - “Turning the incomplete curve upside down – A comprehensive management of Cleft Lip & Palate in children” on 22-02-19, with an emphasis on the comprehensive management of cleft lip and palate among children.
Four distinguished Speakers from various specialties were invited to present lectures on the occasion. A detailed description of the comprehensive management of cleft lip and palate in children was elaborated. Contemporary practices with relevant case-reports were illustrated.
Dr. Sumitra, Professor & Head, Department of Orthodontics, KLE Society’s Institute of Dental Sciences, Bengaluru, spoke on the epidemiology, etiopathogenesis & classification of Cleft Lip & Palate while Dr. Umme Azher, Professor, Department of Paedodontics & Preventive Dentistry, Sri Rajiv Gandhi College of Dental Sciences & Hospital, Bengaluru shared insights on the role of Paedodontist in the management of children with Cleft Lip & Palate.
AIR CMDE (Dr.) Balakrishnan Jayan, Commandant, Air Force Institute of Dental Sciences, Bengaluru, delivered lecture on pre-& post-surgical orthodontic management of Cleft Lip & Palate patients. Dr. Krishnamurthy B, Professor, Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Bangalore Institute of Dental Sciences, Bengaluru explained various aspects of surgical anatomy, the principles of surgical management of Cleft Lip & Palate with a special mention on surgical management of secondary deformities associated with it.
Faculty & Postgraduate students from many colleges of Bengaluru and other places, including Dental practitioners attended the CDE program. The speakers responded to the verbal queries of the delegates and printed feedback forms were obtained from delegates at the end of the session. Thus the CDE program helped the faculty, post-graduate students and practitioners to be better equipped with the knowledge for an appropriate management of cleft lip and palate.
